Not too long ago my mom and I were having a discussion about gold jewelry. The conversation actually came up after my daughter asked her grandmother if she would give her some jewelry for her birthday coming up in May. I didn’t hear the conversation, but mom told me about it later and asked if I thought it would be ok if she gave Miranda a small piece of gold jewelry for her birthday. We talked about whether or not we thought she would be too young to have a bracelet, necklace or even a ring, since she’ll be turning 8 years old. Part of me thinks that she’s too young for gold jewelry, and yet the other part of me remembers when I was 8 years old that I also felt about jewelry the way she does. Mom even reminded me that I sometimes borrowed her gold jewelry when I was that age without even asking, which is something that I’d forgotten completely about. I got in trouble more than once for doing that without asking. After talking to mom, we agreed that maybe it wouldn’t hurt to look online and see if she could find a small piece of gold jewelry to give my daughter. After all, she was growing up whether I liked it or not.
